Angie McMahon’s latest single explores coping with anxiety. ‘Fireball Whiskey’ is a delicate ballad led by airy instrumentation. Twinkling piano provides countermelody to McMahon’s own voice while subtle guitar chords and distant drums aid the track’s slow, tender build. The track “touches on using alcohol to navigate my anxiety, and also just realising over time that caring for your mental health is so important and will affect the way you can love and be with people. I think I’m afraid of change and didn’t know that about myself, but the process of writing this one helped bring it to light.” Her new album, Light, Dark, Light Again, drops on October 27th, 2023, via AWAL Recordings. -Dan Peeke
